Since then, I talked nicely with kiddies and sarcastically with people with their heads up their asses. I dressed myself well, and emphasized what looked good. I made friends with all my co-workers. I’ve also partied a lot, gathered tons of crazy stories, and was frivolous.
A few months ago, I met a different older woman. She was also well-spoken, funny, intelligent. She was in a fast-paced, demanding career. She was dressed neat and professional. She handled all her assignments with ease. She gave presentations to hundreds of people, explaining complicated issues in a simple way. She used humor to illustrate her positions. Her home life was impeccable. I've seen her twice since, thinking - there is no way I can be like her.
I guess we will see what happens in six years.
